• Saving Christmas for customers
  • Avoid breakdowns with simple prep
  • Wrap up essentials for winter travel

Bleak mid-winter stories turn into fairy tales for Start Rescue customers at Christmas, and any other time of the year.

The leading breakdown provider is always there to deliver you home for the big day, as customer Alex found out: “What a life saver! Had a newborn only three days ago and my car wouldn’t start when I went to get formula. Called, seen to and up and running within 20 minutes a few days after Christmas.”

Another happy ending was for customer Peter. He says: “Breaking down on Christmas Eve could have been a whole lot worse, but your guys were outstanding and got it sorted pronto.”

“We are always there to help, 24/7 and every day of the year including Christmas and New Year,” says Lee Puffett, Managing Director of Start Rescue. “Prevention is better than cure, and a few simple steps can avoid a breakdown altogether.”

Make sure your car’s lights and horn work, and consider replacing the battery if it’s a few years old. A third (29.7%) of breakdown call-outs are due to a flat battery.

Keep all of the windows and lights, as well as the number plates, clean so you can see and be seen clearly. Carry an ice scraper and de-icer in the car to defrost the windows thoroughly before driving, and keep the windscreen washer bottle topped up with winter-strength fluid.

Other simple tips include making sure you have plenty of fuel in case you get held up, and check your tyres are correctly inflated.

Lee Puffett adds: “Make certain the engine’s oil and coolant are filled to the right levels. We’d also advise keeping a blanket, phone charger, water, and snacks in the car should you get delayed due to severe weather or a breakdown.”

Even then, Start Rescue is there to save Christmas, as customer Carolyn explains: “On our way to pick up my daughter on Christmas Day, one of the car’s suspension springs snapped. With it being Christmas Day, we honestly thought we were going to end up leaving the car, but the Start Rescue app was very easy to use, gave us a time period and even arrived within 45 minutes! The recovery man was very friendly and helpful, and got the car and me home quickly and efficiently so I could enjoy Christmas with my family. Couldn’t have asked for better service!”

Start Rescue has a 4.5-star rating on Trustpilot, a five-star Defaqto* rating and has achieved Which? Recommended Provider status for six years running. Start Rescue has also been awarded best Breakdown Cover provider in the Finder Customer Satisfaction Awards 2024 (www.finder.com), scoring 4.9 out of 5 for overall satisfaction with a 94% recommendation rate.

In the What Car? Survey of Best Breakdown Cover, Start Rescue came top for best response time, reaching 77% of call-outs in 30 minutes to an hour and didn’t leave anyone waiting for more than two hours. Start Rescue also won best in the survey for performing temporary repairs that let people continue with their journeys.

Launched in 2009, Start Rescue is an integral part of the nation’s fourth largest breakdown and recovery service, Call Assist, which now has more than two million UK customers.
