Tuesday, May 20th, England, UK – 2024 saw automotive lighting manufacturer Glohh diversify their product portfolio with the GL-2 and GL-2x, a modern rear light upgrade honouring the Land Rover Defender’s 76 year heritage. Following success of the taillights, Glohh introduced a front lighting counterpart to meet the dedicated community’s growing demand. The subsequent months saw thousands of owners, from overlanders to coachbuilders, embracing the complete GL-2 lighting set, showcasing unique builds and sharing images of their customised Defenders globally.
The community’s passion has driven demand to outpace supply twice over, enabling Glohh to surpass economic expectations in four out of five global regions and deliver Defender lighting to 105 countries. Key markets including the UK, Australia, South Africa, the USA, Mexico, and several European nations have embraced the product, further cementing its worldwide appeal among a diverse range of individuals, including farmers, CEOs and explorers.
“Entering a new market was challenging during significant economic volatility. However, as Land Rover enthusiasts with years of innovative lighting expertise, we were ideally equipped to continue the Defender’s success story by providing a lighting modernisation missing from the market,” explains Tahir Riaz, Glohh’s Chief Commercial Officer for the MENA region. “Positive reception of the GL-2 proves owners are devoted to personalising their vehicles using technology befitting the modern day, with images shared worldwide showcasing unique visions of the Defender, all united by the GL-2. This passion has led to some of Glohh’s strongest financial results to date, the GL-2 is undoubtedly the leading light upgrade for the Defender.”
The GL-2 lighting upgrade continues to experience strong monthly growth, despite challenging macroeconomic conditions. This success is primarily driven by positive online and offline reception, with organic referrals emerging from community-led automotive events. An independent customer survey revealed 79% of buyers chose the GL-2 due to its seamless integration with the Defender, while 85% praise its modern design in contrast to traditional alternatives.
Since the launch of the front lighting counterpart in October 2024, the United Kingdom has seen the largest growth, with sales increasing by 10% month-on-month. Further success has been observed in Europe, Australasia and Africa, with demand rising by 5% in these regions, while the Americas have seen growth of 7%, with demand predicted to continue increasing as availability expands.
“The social impact of the GL-2 has resonated deeply within the Defender community, becoming a key feature of modern builds, including one driven by the iconic Richard Hammond of Top Gear fame, on his DriveTribe channel,” says Brandon Smalley, Marketing Executive at Glohh. “These builds honour the vehicle’s heritage while embracing its future and this shared commitment to modernising the vehicle plays a crucial role in widespread acclaim of the GL-2, a product shaped by the same demand leading Land Rover to release the Classic Defender V8 Soft Top, a present-day reinterpretation of the legendary design.”
Glohh has established a strong presence within the Defender and Series markets in a short period of time, with a rising demand for contemporary lighting upgrade GL-2 paving the way for sustained growth. Future plans include additional bespoke lighting solutions designed to meet the evolving needs of Defender owners, such as a dedicated NAS specification, highly requested within the United States and by owners of limited-edition Land Rover Defender configurations such as the SVX, X-Tech and Autobiography.
