On-the-road prices from £33,990 for the Saloon, £34,990 for the Touring

SEAL 6 DM-i features BYD’s ultra-efficient and flexible Super Hybrid DM-i intelligent plug-in hybrid powertrain for the first time, with an overall range of up to 935 miles

Touring provides capacious and easily adaptable load space, extending to a maximum 1,535 litres (with rear seats down)

Trim level and high levels of standard equipment specifications mirrored for both Saloon and Touring, with Boost and Comfort

Both new models available to order now, with first customer deliveries from December 2025

BYD’s expanding UK model range welcomes two further new models with the announcement of prices, equipment specifications and start of sales for the SEAL 6 DM-i Saloon and Touring. These latest additions to the brand’s fast-growing line-up are available to order now with customer deliveries scheduled to start in December.

On-the-road prices start at £33,990 for the Saloon and £34,990 for the Touring version. The two models share the same high levels of standard equipment that include comprehensive connectivity, safety and driver assistance features across two grades: Boost and Comfort.

The introduction expands BYD’s model range to provide the convenience and versatility of an estate body-style for the first time and give customers the option of BYD’s Super Hybrid with DM (Dual Mode) technology. This BYD-designed intelligent plug-in hybrid system combines the refinement and responsiveness of EV driving with the flexibility of a petrol-electric powertrain.

In the Saloon, this can provide up to 87 miles of all-electric urban driving1 and a potential range of up to 935 miles2. Respective figures for the Touring model are up to 81 miles3 and a range of up to 839 miles4.

1Comfort grade; 2Boost grade; 3Comfort grade; 4all grades.

BYD’S first wagon in Europe
The SEAL 6 DM-i Touring is the first BYD wagon to be introduced in Europe. It comes with convenience and practicality designed-in, the load space offering 500 litres of space with the rear seats in place, loading to the parcel shelf. Quick-release handles make it simple to lower the 40:60 split-folding rear bench, increasing the cargo volume to a maximum 1,535 litres. Access is made easy with a power tailgate, provided as standard on all versions.

Grades and equipment highlights
The entry point to the SEAL 6 DM-i range, and forecast best-selling version, is Boost, which comes equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, a 3.3kW on-board charger, automatic windscreen wipers and headlights, vegan leather upholstery and steering wheel trim, plus, a six-speaker audio system.

Multimedia functions are controlled using a 12.8-inch touchscreen and connectivity is supported by front and rear USB ports – four in total – and smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The cabin also features power-adjustable front seats – six-way for the driver and four-way for the passenger – and footwell and door illumination. A smartphone key can be used for easy vehicle access.

The extensive active safety and driver assistance package includes rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, Blind Spot Detection and Driver Fatigue Management. Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Braking and warnings for forward and rear collision and door opening are also provided.

The Comfort grade builds on this specification with 15.6-inch multimedia touchscreen, 18-inch alloys, a 6.6kW on-board charger, door mirror puddle lights and rear privacy glass. Life on board is enhanced with a panoramic roof with electric sunshade and multi-coloured ambient lighting. Comfort features include a heated steering wheel and heated and ventilated front seats (with a memory position setting for the driver). An eight-speaker HiFi Sound audio package is provided, together with a wireless smartphone charger. Manoeuvring is made easier with the addition of front parking sensors and a 360-degree camera.

Promotion across Global’s national radio stations is supporting projects providing lifelines in communities across the UK

Simple text-to-enter format, open now. More info on https://www.makesomenoise.com/win-a-brand-new-fully-electric-car

The BYD Dolphin Surf is the prize car, offered in the top spec’ version, Comfort, worth £23,950 on-the-road

A brand-new, top-of-the-range BYD Dolphin Surf electric car will be the reward for a lucky winner in a charity promotion from Make Some Noise. The fundraising will enable the organisation to support even more projects delivered by small, local charities across the UK. These projects are lifelines in their communities – supporting families facing a life-limiting illness, those struggling with their mental health, escaping domestic abuse, or trying to make ends meet.

Global, the UK’s largest radio company, presents some of the most popular radio brands including Heart, Capital, LBC, Classic FM and Smooth. It uses its great listener reach and engagement with Make Some Noise to fund and champion projects by charities providing critical help and support at grassroots level.

BYD is pleased to be supporting Make Some Noise’s latest fund-raising campaign, where listeners can be in with a chance of winning their own all-electric Dolphin Surf simply by sending a text.

Details of how to take part can be found here; terms and conditions are detailed here.

Entries are open now and will be accepted through to 5pm on 10 October 2025.

The BYD Dolphin Surf has a youthful, sporty character, emphasised by the prize car’s signature Lime Green paint finish and sharply-styled alloy wheels. Its compact dimensions make it perfect for zipping around urban environments in style and comfort. Looks aside, practicality is designed-in: with a 360-degree view camera and wireless smartphone charger, while clever packaging delivers more than 300 litres of boot space; flip down the two rear seats and there’s more than 1,000 litres available.

BYD’s advanced battery tech gives it a driving range of up to 200 miles, so there’s power on tap for most day-to-day journeys. When you do need to recharge, a rapid charge to 80% capacity only takes around half an hour.

Clever touches include a rotating central digital touchscreen and a multimedia system with a karaoke setting that lets you add your voice to the in-car entertainment through a simple app. A voice command system makes it simple to adjust what you’re listening to or the air-con settings while keeping your hands on the wheel. You can also integrate your smartphone and use your favourite compatible apps using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

BYD has been revealed as drivers’ ‘Most Loved Brand’ at the 2025 Autotrader Drivers’ Choice Awards. Unlike traditional industry awards, the Autotrader Drivers’ Choice Awards are voted for by over 200,000 real-world car owners – proving that BYD has truly won the nation’s hearts!

In addition to ‘Most Loved Brand’, BYD was also shortlisted across six awards categories, including ‘Most Loved Car – ATTO 3’, ‘Best Value New Car – SEAL U DM-i’ and ‘Car Brand With The Best Tech’.

BYD officially launched in March 2023, and since then has launched five fully electric models and one plug-in hybrid, becoming the UK’s fastest growing brand and surpassing 25,000 sales in just over two years.

Just last week BYD launched its newest fully electric model: the DOLPHIN SURF. With a starting price of £18,650 – or £269 per month with a £269 deposit – for the entry-level Active model, the DOLPHIN SURF is BYD’s most accessible model yet. Combining sporty looks with a spacious, practical cabin full of the company’s trademark high-tech features, the DOLPHIN SURF is an ideal choice to revolutionise the compact-EV segment.

While BYD passenger cars launched in 2023, BYD has been present in the UK for over 10 years with its electric buses. The company now has more than 2,500 BYD electric buses on UK roads, with over 70% market share in London alone.

Rory Reid, Autotrader’s YouTube Director, said: “BYD’s really made waves since arriving on UK shores, and winning the most loved brand in just a few short years is a massive achievement and testament to the quality of the product. This came through loud and clear from our owners, with one telling us: ‘The quality of interior, the tech, and the ride quality for the very competitive price is so impressive. It’s amazing value for money with no compromise versus competitors. I love it.’ High, and very well deserved, praise indeed.”

Steve Beattie, Sales and Marketing Director, BYD UK, added: “It is a huge honour for everyone at BYD to be voted the nation’s ‘Most Loved Brand’, and the fact it’s been voted for by real-world car owners makes it even more meaningful. BYD’s growth has been rapid and I’m extremely proud of our achievements; it’s amazing to see the hard work of our UK and retailer teams coming to fruition.”

This year, over 200,000 UK car owners completed Autotrader’s online survey sharing exactly what they think of their car, with their thoughts and opinions (obtained from real-world experience) determining the winners of 20 of this year’s 25 award categories.

BYD, the world’s leading manufacturer of new-energy vehicles, has used China’s international car show, Auto Shanghai 2025, to showcase a range of new technologies and features across multiple new models from its range of brands.

With everything from a groundbreaking new sports car concept to an estate/wagon model based on the latest Super DM hybrid powertrain, BYD’s line-up and range of appealing vehicles now looks wider than ever for global audiences.

BYD shows powertrain prowess with new hybrid models and EVs
BYD’s position as a world leader in new-energy powertrains has been proved again at Auto Shanghai, with a range of new models that demonstrate perfectly how the brand is able to engineer appealing vehicles with either plug-in Super DM hybrid technology or a pure-electric configuration.

The all-new SEALION 6 DM-i and SEALION 6 EV are prime examples of this, bringing fresh interpretations of the mid-size SUV for the electrified era. Based respectively on BYD’s DM Hybrid architecture and the advanced e-Platform 3.0 Evo, both models reflect the brand’s cutting-edge technology and the latest interpretation of the Ocean Aesthetics design language.

With a length of 4,810mm and a wheelbase of 2,820mm, the SEALION 6 DM-i and SEALION 6 EV have the dimensions to deliver exceptional family-friendly practicality in the mid-size SUV class. And while they adopt common design principles, they also get subtle differences in the front-end treatment to highlight their respective powertrain choices.

Further evidence of BYD’s hybrid expansion could be found on the stand in the form of the SEAL 6 DM-i Wagon. Another model infused with Ocean Aesthetics, the SEAL 6 DM-i Wagon is the first estate model from the BYD brand – and its mix of everyday practicality, sharp styling and ultra-low running costs is set to bring wagons into the mainstream again.

The front-end styling is inherited from the SEAL 6 DM-i sedan, but the side profile of the new arrival shows a classic wagon silhouette, with a distinctive three-stage waistline that stretches the DM-i Wagon visually for a more elegant stance. Semi-recessed door handles contribute to an aerodynamically efficient profile. The SEAL 6 DM-i Wagon measures 4,850mm in length and 1,505mm in height, and features a wheelbase of 2,790mm for excellent cabin space.

Beneath the SEAL 6 DM-i’s bonnet is BYD’s latest Dual Mode (DM) hybrid technology, which features a highly efficient 1.5-litre plug-in hybrid powertrain for unmatched fuel economy and huge combined range on a full change and a full tank of petrol. BYD believes that this powertrain’s efficiency, in an ultra-practical wagon body style, will help to bring electrified mobility to more users than ever before.

Another BYD global debut at Shanghai is the Dynasty-D – a full-size concept SUV that is designed to sit with the HAN and TANG models at the summit of the brand’s line-up. The 5.3-metre-long Dynasty-D features an imposing design with the industry’s longest integrated light bar – measuring 2.4 metres – giving it an assured front-end appearance. The side profile features brushstroke-like contours, while the 23-inch wheels give the Dynasty-D a majestic presence. The rear, meanwhile, features a 3D version of Chinese-knot tail-lights, complete with phoenix-feature motifs.

The Dynasty-D’s cabin features craft-inspired elements like bamboo inlays, hand-applied gold leaf and traditional paper techniques. And it mixes these features with high technology; with eight interconnected screens and interactive visual themes, the digital cockpit allows occupants to experience a seamless fusion of ancient culture and modern technology.

DENZA Z Concept Sports Car introduces fresh technology breakthroughs
Away from BYD’s own stand, the wider group’s other brands have all introduced new models and breakthrough technologies in Shanghai. Premium brand DENZA, which recently made its debut in Europe, has revealed a stunning new supercar, called the DENZA Z Concept Sports Car. The name is drawn on the Z of DENZA, which stands for ‘Zenith’ – and the Concept Sports Car has been created to deliver peak levels of performance, technology and driver enjoyment.

The DENZA Z Concept Sports Car redefines performance with a fusion of pure design and advanced innovation. With aesthetics devoted to pure driving pleasure, it features a sculpted body that’s been honed to maximise aerodynamic performance as well as efficiency. This extends to an adjustable rear wing, which helps to clean up the air while also increasing downforce for improved handling, especially in faster corners.

Inside, the DENZA Z Concept Sports Car features a high-strength roll cage and carbon-fibre bucket seats. There’s even an integrated carbon-fibre dashboard that adds to the immersive experience for sports-car enthusiasts while contributing to the vehicle structure.

The DENZA Z Concept Sports Car pushes the boundaries of intelligent premium mobility, building on the existing engineering potential of the DENZA-exclusive e3 Platform by introducing fresh innovations in suspension and chassis technology. The car features DENZA’s first fully self-developed steer-by-wire system – part of a complete, global-first drive-by-wire set-up that also includes a folding steering wheel (enhancing crash safety and driver space), the powertrain, braking and suspension.

Another component of this is the Z Concept Sports Car’s DiSus-M Magnetorheological Body Control System. It uses magnetic fields to alter the viscosity of fluid, facilitating real-time damping adjustment in under 10 milliseconds. This allows the DENZA Z Concept Sports Car to balance agility with comfort, and to adapt seamlessly to complex road conditions. It can also be paired with predictive terrain scanning to ensure sharp cornering, stable braking and a smooth ride.

The U8L carries forward the U8 series’ distinctive front design, but introduces a new black-gold two-tone exterior, and additional dark-finish details such as the front bumper and D-pillars. The rear tailgate no longer includes a spare tire and along the sides, retractable door handles ensure a sleek, sophisticated appearance.

The U8L’s core technologies mean that it continues to offer the same extreme safety features as the U8, such as emergency water flotation, tyre-blowout stability and on-the-spot U-turns.

Strong performance across all four key categories of evaluation

BYD’s flagship SEALION 7 SUV has earned a maximum five-star safety rating in the latest round of tests by independent body Euro NCAP. The model, which was launched in Europe in late 2024 and features not only a Blade Battery but also BYD’s trademark Cell-to-Body construction, picked up the top rating with strong performances in all of the four key areas in Europe’s most stringent safety examination – Adult Occupant protection, Child Occupant protection, Vulnerable Road Users protection and Safety Assist.

The SEALION 7, which is available with a choice of battery sizes and power outputs, and incorporates the world’s fastest electric motor in mass production (23,000rpm), has picked up particularly strong scores in the two occupant areas of the test. Euro NCAP’s official report says that the car offered good whiplash protection in a crash, while noting good protection in the side barrier test and severe side pole impact evaluation. The Adult Occupant protection rating is 87%.

The Child Occupant protection rating is even more impressive, at 93%, equalling the highest percentage score in this category over the past nine years and reinforcing the SEALION 7’s positioning as a family car. The report states how, in the frontal offset and side barrier tests, the SEALION 7 scores maximum points for protection of all critical parts of the body for both the 10-year and six-year dummies. It also credits its direct child-presence detection system, which issues a warning when it detects that a child or infant has been left in the vehicle.

The SEALION 7’s suite of driver-assistance features all earn praise in the evaluation, with a Safety Assist score of 79%. The report comments that the autonomous emergency braking system performs well, including responding well to pedestrians and motorcyclists, and notes the presence of lane-support and speed-assistance systems.

The SEALION 7’s five-star verdict follows similar ratings for its other models on sale in Europe – DOLPHIN, ATTO 3, SEAL U and SEAL U DM-i, SEAL and TANG.

BYD has set a new sales record in the UK, selling 9,271 cars in Q1 alone. This achievement is not only BYD UK’s most successful quarter since the company introduced passenger cars in March 2023, but also means the company sold more cars in the most recent quarter than the whole of 2024 combined.

This impressive achievement has propelled BYD’s UK market share to 1.6%, from 0.45% in 2024. In March alone, total market share was 1.8% – in exactly two years since the company launched passenger cars in the UK.

The SEAL U DM-i and SEAL were the standout sales stars in Q1, with the former the best performing model in the PHEV segment and the latter the seventh best-selling model in the pure electric category. The company registered 3,975 SEAL U DM-i and 2,521 SEAL.

Steve Beattie, Sales and Marketing Director, BYD UK: “I am incredibly proud of our latest achievement in the UK; thanks to the tireless work of our team and retailer partners we have smashed yet another sales record. With the addition of SEALION 7, we are confident that more people will continue to choose BYD.”

The all-new BYD SEALION 7 joined the range in March and is already proving popular with customers. Based on BYD’s e-platform 3.0 and utilising the brand’s innovative Blade Battery, the SEALION 7 combines sporty performance, stylish SUV design, cutting-edge technology and a beautifully finishes, spacious cabin. With an all-electric range of up to 312 miles of range, the SEALION 7 further extends the reach of BYD in the UK car market.

While BYD passenger cars is relatively new to the UK, BYD has a long and successful history in the UK thanks to its commercial vehicle division. BYD introduced its first fully-electric buses on UK roads in 2014, and now has over 2,500 buses in operation in major cities across the country. Plus, since 2016, BYD has provided 1.8GWh of battery energy storage to the UK’s national grid.

BYD, the World’s global leader in new energy vehicles, announces UK pricing for the SEALION 7 starting from just £44,990 on-the-road. This sporty, stylish SUV offers advanced EV technology, a spacious and refined interior, an intelligent in-car interface, and rapid charging up to 230 kW—strengthening BYD’s presence in Europe’s car market.

As the seventh pure-electric BYD model in Europe and the fourth in the Ocean Series (following the DOLPHIN, SEAL, and SEAL U), the SEALION 7 is crafted for tech-savvy families. It features an overall length of 4,830 mm, a 2,930 mm wheelbase, a WLTP range of up to 312 miles, a top speed of 134 mph, and acceleration from 0-62 mph in just 4.5 seconds.

BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li said: “We’ve noticed demand for precisely this type of vehicle in Europe, so we’re delighted to introduce the SEALION 7. We’re confident that its mix of SUV design and packaging, Blade Battery technology, range, high performance and generous specification will appeal to many customers across Europe. The SEALION 7 shows how BYD is reacting to customer demand and tastes in the region, and widening our product line-up to ensure the best possible coverage of the most important vehicle types. This will be a key factor as we continue our progress in Europe.”

OCEAN SERIES DESIGN, TRANSLATED INTO A SPORTY SUV SHAPE
The SEALION 7, designed by BYD’s Global Design Director Wolfgang Egger, adapts the Ocean Series design language, seen in the DOLPHIN hatchback and SEAL saloon, into a sporty SUV. Its athletic stance combines power and efficiency, enhancing the range of its Blade Battery.

The front showcases the Ocean Series’ signature ‘X face’ motif, symbolizing dynamic motion. Dual U-shaped LED headlights and sculpted curves evoke ocean waves. The side profile combines a smooth yet assertive look, with a low front, rounded roofline, and fastback rear with a subtle ducktail spoiler. Crisp creases along the body create a dual waistline, while flush door handles enhance its streamlined appearance.

The rear shows off a muscular haunch and a full-width light signature, including the Ocean Series’ latest ‘water-drop’ taillights. At 30mm longer and 160mm taller than the SEAL, the SEALION 7 emphasizes its unique SUV positioning.

REVOLUTIONARY BLADE BATTERY & CELL-TO-BODY (CTB) INSTALLATION
Built on BYD’s award winning e-Platform 3.0, the SEALION 7 features the Blade Battery, an industry-leading battery that combines safety, efficiency, and durability. Using lithium iron phosphate (LFP) as a cathode material, it’s cobalt-free, ethically sourced, and highly resistant to extreme temperatures. The Blade Battery’s cell-to-body installation integrates directly into the vehicle frame, maximizing cabin space and torsional stiffness. The SEALION 7 can charge from 10% to 80% in as little as 24 minutes with ultra-fast 230 kW DC charging on top-spec models, making it ideal for long trips.

RECORD BREAKING MOTOR PERFORMANCE
BYD’s engineering innovation enables the SEALION 7’s rear motor to reach 23,000 rpm, the world’s fastest mass produced EV motor. Producing 230 kW and 380 Nm of torque, it powers the rear-wheel-drive Comfort model from 0 to 62 mph in 6.7 seconds, with a top speed of 134 mph. The AWD Design and Excellence trims add a second 160 kW motor on the front axle, delivering a combined output of 390 kW and accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in just 4.5 seconds, while maintaining the 134 mph top speed.

IMPRESSIVE RANGE AND CHARGING OPTIONS
The SEALION 7 is available with two battery capacities and three configurations to balance performance and range. The Comfort and Design trims come with an 82.5 kWh battery, offering up to 300 miles WLTP range on RWD models and 283 miles on AWD. The top-spec Excellence AWD trim boasts a 91.3 kWh battery, achieving the longest range in the lineup at 312 miles WLTP. All versions offer 11 kW AC charging and up to 150 kW or 230 kW DC fast charging, depending on the model. A highly efficient heat pump, synonymous across the BYD range, is standard, helping to maximise range, particularly in cold conditions.

ADVANCED CHASSIS TECHNOLOGY & ENGAGING DYNAMICS
The SEALION 7’s e-Platform 3.0 architecture provides excellent handling and stability through a double-wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear axle. Equipped with Frequency Sensitive Dampers, the SUV adapts to road conditions, offering firm stability on smooth roads and a softer ride over rough surfaces. The AWD models also feature BYD’s Intelligent Torque Adaption Control (iTAC), which optimizes torque allocation, boosting traction and safety.

Spacious, Comfortable Cabin with Premium Features
With its SUV form and 4,830 mm length, the SEALION 7 offers a spacious cabin for five adults. A 2,930 mm wheelbase and flat rear floor maximize legroom, while the slim Blade Battery allows generous headroom even with the SUV’s sleek roofline. Premium comfort features include an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated and ventilated front seats, double-layered laminated glass for noise reduction, and a large panoramic sunroof with a sunshade. Storage includes a 520-litre boot (expandable to 1,789 litres with rear seats folded), a 58-litre front compartment, and over 20 small storage compartments.

Cutting-Edge In-Car Technology and Driver Assistance
The SEALION 7 integrates BYD’s latest technology, centred on a 15.6-inch rotatable touchscreen. The intuitive interface offers a 3D car rendering, interactive controls, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration, and a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel. The Excellence AWD also includes a Head-Up Display. BYD’s voice control system enables front and rear passengers to interact with the infotainment and climate systems through voice commands. The BYD SEALION 7 also features a 12-speaker audio system developed in conjunction with Danish speaker specialist Dynaudio.
