With the upcoming D-Max EV, Isuzu is ready to harness this national passion for electric power and capability.

Drivers are caring more for their cars as EVs become part of everyday life.

58% feel emotionally connected to their electric vehicles, with nicknames like “Evie” and “Charge Clooney” topping the list.

As Britain drives toward an all-electric future ahead of the 2030 new car deadline, new research from Isuzu UK reveals just how deeply the nation’s relationship with its vehicles is being transformed. From affectionate nicknames to newfound pride in maintenance, electric vehicle (EV) owners are showing more emotional and personal connections with their cars than ever before. The study highlights that the quiet, eco-friendly nature of EVs has sparked a wave of enthusiasm across the country, changing not just how people drive, but how they feel about their vehicles.

With all new cars due to become electric vehicles by 2030, half of (50 percent) of Brits admit that the charged-up cars are changing their relationship with vehicles.

One in five (17 percent) admit they clean their vehicle every week because they have pride in it, while 15 percent make a point of taking their motor for a regular check-up because they care for it more.

A third (33 percent) say they like cars MORE now because they are greener, with a quarter (24 percent) feeling closer to them because they are not as noisy.

In fact, researchers from Isuzu, who commissioned the research ahead of the release of its new D-Max EV which is the first fully electric, fully capable pick-up in the UK, found that the nation’s love for electric vehicles is growing so rapidly that almost two thirds (59 percent) would push friends and family to get one, especially as one in twenty (five percent) admit they like EV owners more than other drivers.

But the nation’s affection for electric vehicles doesn’t end there, 58 percent say they have an emotional bond with their car so much so that almost half (46 percent) regularly give their motors nicknames with ‘Evie’ (29 percent), ‘Herbie’ (15 percent), ‘Sparky’ (13 percent) and ‘Yoda’ (10 percent) the top choices.

Nine percent use the car’s quiet performance as a nickname with ‘Silent Ride’, while eight percent play on the charging methods with ‘Electron’ and ‘Voltaire’ (eight percent) also mentioned in the survey.

In classic British style, one in fourteen (seven percent) draw inspiration from current affairs with ‘Volty McVoltface’, ‘Charge Clooney’ (seven percent) and ‘Jolt Travolta’ (four percent).

Other names that feature in the top 25 list include ‘Lighting’ (six percent), ‘Hushmobile’ (five percent), ‘E-motion’ (four percent), ‘Chargezilla’ (three percent) and ‘Sparky McChargeface’ (three percent).

When it comes to how Brits pick a nickname for their vehicle, 38 percent like to choose one that starts with the same letter as the make of car, while 25 percent use the model to create a tag.

Family names (24 percent), playing on the colour (13 percent), using a childhood nickname (12 percent) and picking a name from their favourite TV show or film (10 percent) are other ways the nation uses to pick a name for their motor.

But our love for our cars doesn’t stop at nicknames; almost half (49 percent) admit that they regularly talk to their car, with 55 percent going a step further and saying they talk more to their vehicle than to their loved ones.

Head of Marketing at Isuzu UK, George Wallis, said: “Brits clearly have a real spark when it comes to naming their EVs, from Charge Clooney to Volty McVoltface, it’s great to see people forming such strong emotional connections with their EV vehicles.

At Isuzu, we’re getting ready to plug an EV gap with the upcoming D-Max EV, the first ever, fully electric, fully capable pick-up. It’s designed to keep the power, toughness, and capability our owners love and conduct itself well in all conditions.”

With pre-sales due to begin later in 2025, the New Isuzu D-Max EV is the first fully electric pick-up in Europe to offer a 1-tonne payload, 3.5-tonne towing capacity, and full-time 4WD.

The research also discovered that there are new rules of etiquette around charging points with ‘Don’t park in a charging spot if you’re not charging’ (44 percent), ‘Move your car as soon as it’s charged’ (43 percent), ‘Be patient while waiting for your car to charge’ (36 percent) and ‘Don’t unplug someone else’s car without asking’ (31 percent) all making the list.

And it seems that car charging points are perhaps surprising spots for finding romance, with more than half (53 percent) of people saying they are the perfect place to meet a potential partner.

In fact, a third (32 percent) say that having an EV means that you’re likely to be a good potential partner because you’re environmentally minded and have similar tastes (25 percent).

TOP NICKNAMES FOR EV CARS, ACCORDING TO DRIVERS:

Isuzu UK is proud to announce its continued role as the Headline Partner of GB Pointing for the 2025/26 season, marking the second year of the successful collaboration between the renowned pick-up brand and the grassroots heart of British jump racing.

Building on the success of the inaugural year in partnership, the relationship between Isuzu and British Point-to-Pointing is growing to new heights this season. The partnership will include exciting new initiatives such as a behind-the-scenes series offering exclusive insights into the world of Point-to-Point racing, and a range of event activations throughout the season where spectators can experience the rugged capability and refined design of the Isuzu D-Max first-hand.

Point-to-Pointing remains one of the UK’s most cherished rural sporting traditions, with events taking place at 80 courses across the country. Known for its warm, community-driven atmosphere and deep roots in the countryside, the sport serves as a proving ground for future champions, both equine and human; over 70% of professional national hunt jockeys and 35% of licensed trainers began their careers “pointing.”

Paul Miller, Chief Executive at the Point-to-Point Authority, commented: “We’re delighted to see Isuzu continuing its commitment as Headline Partner for a second season. The brand’s enthusiasm for Point-to-Pointing has been fantastic to witness, and their involvement helps bring our sport to new audiences across the UK. This growing partnership celebrates shared values of reliability, endurance, and community spirit, qualities that lie at the heart of both British Point-to-Pointing and Isuzu.”

George Wallis, Head of Marketing at Isuzu UK, added: “We’re thrilled to saddle up for another exciting season with GB Pointing. The bond between our two worlds is a natural fit; both are rooted in rural life, resilience, and performance. Just as riders trust their horses to tackle tough terrain, our customers trust the D-Max to take on every challenge. It’s a fantastic partnership as a result of this synergy.”

The Isuzu D-Max remains a favourite among equine enthusiasts, offering a 1-tonne payload and 3.5-tonne towing capacity with Trailer Sway Control, making it ideally suited for towing horse boxes and transporting gear. Its shift-on-the-fly 4WD system, rear differential lock, and Rough Terrain Mode also ensure it excels across the toughest countryside conditions, perfectly aligned with the spirit of Point-to-Point racing.

With the partnership entering its second year, Isuzu UK continues to strengthen its ties with Britain’s rural community, bringing together the thrill of grassroots racing and the capability of the award-winning Isuzu D-Max.

The study also found that 84% of respondents said dog walks boost their mental health, while over half admitted it was their main form of exercise. One in four dog owners stick to the same walk every day, and nearly two-thirds enjoy letting their dogs explore freely, play fetch, or run together.
A new study by Isuzu UK reveals Ambleside in the Lake District as the nation’s favourite dog walking destination.

Brits will travel an average of 69 miles for the perfect walk, with 84% saying dog walks boost their mental health.

To support adventurous dog owners, Isuzu has launched a range of dog-friendly D-Max accessories for safer, cleaner, and more comfortable trips.

From majestic mountain trails to tranquil woodland paths, Britain’s dog owners are going the distance to give their pups the ultimate walkies experience. New research from Isuzu UK reveals that Ambleside in the Lake District tops the list as the nation’s favourite dog walking destination, with a quarter of owners willing to travel nearly 70 miles just to stretch their legs—and paws—in the great outdoors. Whether it’s the lure of breathtaking views, peace and quiet, or simply the joy of exploring new sniffs, the findings highlight just how far the UK’s dog lovers will go to keep their four-legged companions happy and healthy.

In fact, according to the research by Isuzu UK, pawrents would happily pack up the car and drive an average of 69 miles to sniff out a place with lovely views (60 percent), good weather conditions (46 percent), an area with plenty of bins dotted around (45 percent) and somewhere with minimal traffic and noise (40 percent).

Ambleside was followed by the dramatic landscape of Snowdonia (18 percent) in the list of Britain’s best dog walks, along with the ancient woodlands in New Forest in Hampshire (17 percent) and the 2,500 acres of Richmond Park in London (14 percent).

The country in the city of Hampstead Heath (14 percent), the stunning mountain ranges of the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales (13 percent), Robin Hood’s home Sherwood Forest in Nottingham (12 percent) and the 73-mile-long Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland (11 percent) also feature in the 25 strong list.

One in ten (10 percent) dog owners say you can’t beat Glencoe in the Scottish Highlands for its waterfalls and trails, while eight percent love nothing more than packing up their pooch and driving to the South Downs in Sussex to wander around the chalk hills.

It’s no surprise that eight in ten (84 percent) agree that walking their dog is good for their mental health, so much so that three quarters (76 percent) admit they look forward to it all day.

Time to relax (71 percent), spending quality time with your dog (65 percent), the peace and quiet (57 percent), getting out of the house (53 percent), exploring the local area (28 percent) and talking to other dog owners (21 percent) are the main benefits of a dog walk, along with having the opportunity to work up a sweat (14 percent).

The research also found that on average, Brits walk their dogs for just over an hour and 10 minutes a day, covering 17 miles over the course of a week.

One in four (28 percent) do the same walk EVERY DAY, with 68 percent going a step further and saying they are bored of it.

Over half (58 percent) admit that walking their four-legged friend is the only exercise they do.

George Wallis, Head of Marketing at Isuzu UK said: “It’s no surprise to us that nearly a third of Brits are willing to drive almost 70 miles just to give their dogs the best walkies imaginable — we know our customers go the extra mile for their four-legged friends. Whether it’s chasing views in Ambleside, getting lost in Snowdonia, or lapping up the trails in Glencoe, the Isuzu D-Max is built for the kind of adventures dog owners dream of.”

“With 84 percent of people saying dog walks boost their mental health and over half admitting it’s their main form of exercise, it’s clear the daily walks are vital. That’s why we’ve kitted out the D-Max with paw-some accessories designed to make every trip easier – from robust dog boxes for safe and comfy travel, to safety harnesses, canine gear, rubber mats for easy post-walk clean-ups, with more accessories on the way.”

“At Isuzu, we’ve taken the lead with this research to help owners find the ruffest terrain – and for the one in four people who do the same walk every day, maybe it’s time to sniff out some new trails. With the D-Max and man’s best friend by your side, the UK’s best dog walks are just a tail wag away.”

When it comes to our preferred walking companions, partners (53 percent), sons (23 percent), daughters (23 percent) and best friends (13 percent) come top, along with fellow dog walkers (seven percent) and mums (six percent).

17 percent would rather take the dog for a walk on their own.

Two thirds (63 percent) love to let their pooch explore and sniff on a walk, with 45 percent admitting that nothing beats playing fetch.

One in three (32 percent) like running together, while a further 30 percent like spending time with other owners and watching their dog play with other dogs (30 percent). A quarter (25 percent) use a walk to practise training commands.

Originally introduced in 2012 with the first-generation Isuzu D-Max, the Huntsman show special has evolved to keep pace with the modern countryside user, while staying true to its purpose-built roots. Now equipped with the latest Huntsman Accessory Pack, this special edition embodies everything that makes the D-Max the ultimate vehicle for those working and living in the great outdoors.

Built for the Field, Equipped for the Job
The New Huntsman model is more than just a showpiece, it’s a working companion. Its practicality starts at the rear, with an Aeroklas Commercial Canopy and under-rail bed liner, providing a secure and functional load area. A custom-fitted Gearmate drawer system sits in the load bed, designed to safely store hunting rifles and essential gear, keeping tools organised and out of sight.

A Brink towbar with 13-pin electrics makes full use of the D-Max’s impressive 3.5-tonne towing capacity, while allowing for additional cargo on a trailer. 3D Mat Set come as standard, offering a quick-clean solution for muddy boots and fieldwork debris.

To blend in with the woodland environment while still turning heads, the Huntsman displayed at the CV Show is finished with matt black accents across the grille badge, door handles, and roof rails, giving it a stealthy, purposeful look, available as an optional extra through Isuzu dealer network. A set of 18” black alloy wheels wrapped in General Grabber all-terrain tyres provide additional traction in rural conditions, while custom side steps aid access and enhance the overall visual.
