London, UK (Wednesday 21st May 2025): The all-new, sixth-generation Nissan MICRA will return to the B-segment in 2025 as a fully-connected, pure EV. Combining an assertive personality with zero-emission mobility, the new MICRA will stay true to its guiding principles as a stylish and unpretentious car, which has underpinned its popularity and success as an iconic compact car across five generations and more than 40 years.

Its arrival signals the next major step in Nissan’s bold product offensive in Europe, where the company will introduce four new fully electric models by 2027 as part of its push towards electrification. These include the all-new MICRA, followed by the Nissan LEAF, Nissan JUKE, and a A-Segment model, as well as the upgraded third generation of Nissan’s unique e-Power technology – to be rolled out on the best-selling Nissan Qashqai.

Audacious and assertive design, with a ton of attitude
Designed at Nissan’s Design Europe (NDE) in London, the new MICRA boasts a refreshed and distinctive new exterior look – combining a premium exterior finish and a ton of attitude with an SUV-like design, simple and uncluttered surfaces, and subtle details throughout.

Offering a sense of purpose and an assertive new look, the model brings together careful design aspects that give it a robust and solid stance – including pronounced wheel arches and a distinctive lower lip that suggests a lower centre of gravity, and a car ready to tackle all types of streets.

All new MICRA grades will come with 18” wheels, with three different options depending on grade: “active” wheel covers, “Iconic” and “Sport” alloy wheel designs. That large wheel dimension, combining with the dark wheel arch trim, contributes to the new MICRA’s strong and solid stance on the road.

Iconic headlamps greet the driver, protruding slightly from the clean inclined surface angling up from the numberplate to the hood. On unlocking the car, the lights perform a short choreographed “welcome wink” where the front lights pulse from left to right and then right to left. At the rear, the taillamps are defined by a simple but ornate LED light design – boasting circular lighting elements.

From the corner of the headlight, where its lens rounds from the front to the side surface, the waistline of the new MICRA is defined by what its designers call the “ice cream scoop”. It’s an indent which has been impressed into the surface from the front to the rear of the back passenger door. It is around 1cm in width and is reminiscent of the shape a scoop would make if dragged across the surface of untouched ice cream.

Central to the new MICRA’s audacious personality is the palette of 14 exterior colour combinations with which it will be. Available in Pure White, Elegant Silver, Mystery Black, Noble Marine, Authentic Blue, and Rebel Red, new MICRA is available to suit any need – whether an understated strong and subtle look, or bold and head-turning for those who like to stand out. Depending on grade, two-tone colour options give the buyer the choice to combine the body colour with either a black or grey roof, ensuring there’s a specification and distinctive look for drivers of all tastes.

Interior Elegance
Inside the car, new MICRA’s interior recaptures a theme that has been at the heart of the model across all previous generations – simple, understated elegance. Building on that legacy, this latest generation also hints to its Japanese heritage through subtle hidden design features – including a moulded outline of Japan’s most famous landmark, Mount Fuji, incorporated into the storage space between the front seats.

As soon as they enter the car, the driver will appreciate the three-spoke wheel – with its hefty, tactile diameter – as well as the 10.1” configurable hi-resolution screen display behind it for easy viewing of vital information. In the centre of the car sits an additional neighbouring 10.1” touchscreen display, covering the full width of the dashboard and providing a sleek feel for navigation, audio and phone functions – with the screen slightly orientated towards the driver for seamless interaction.

Front and rear seat upholstery varies according to grade but offers customers three distinct trims to suit their preferred interior ambience for a premium feel – Modern, Audacious, and Chill. To complement this even further, interior adjustable ambient lighting allows the driver to choose from 48 different colours and set a scene in the cabin that truly reflects their mood.

“Life-on-board has been conceived to generate clear, distinct ambience according to customer preferences – with different trims, lighting and more available. The careful choice of different colours, materials and finishes bestows different personalities on the cabin. These possibilities will resonate with different customers, meaning customers will be able to enjoy a life-on-board atmosphere according to their tastes,” said Giovanny Arroba.

Compact and Convenient
At under 4 metres in length and less than 1.8 metres wide, the new MICRA punches well above its weight, and is perfectly suited for the tight turns and busy roads of urban life. A wheelbase of 2.54 metres pushes the wheels to the corners, which has the triple benefits of guaranteeing improved interior space, while providing a dynamic stance on the road and an optimum blend of agility and stability.

To simplify options for customers, the new MICRA will only be available in a five-door configuration – making the most of its long wheelbase to give easy entry and exit for all occupants. The front seat passenger in particular will enjoy a sense of spacious luxury, with seats offering exceptional support and plenty of distance between their knees and the uncluttered dashboard, finished in soft-touch materials.

The interior comfort and spacious feel don’t come at the cost of functional space, however. Where storage capacity and trunk space is often lacking in compact cars, this isn’t the case with new MICRA. Customers will enjoy 326 litres of capacity, significantly more than many of MICRA’s competitors – with 40/60 foldable rear seats able to extend that up to 1106 litres as needed.

Seamless EV Driving with up to 253miles range and impressive fast charging
Available for the first time as a fully electric model, new MICRA offers worry-free EV driving that’s perfect for daily life. Available in two battery options – 40kWh and 52kWh – the model offers significant power and range for an urban car:

While primarily designed as a car for the urban jungle, the 52kWh battery and impressive 253 miles real-world range means that when done cutting a swathe through busy streets, drivers can escape to the country without range anxiety.

When a charge is needed, new MICRA offers one of the best quick charge options available in the category. Thanks to its 100kW DC charger (or 80kw on the 40kWh version), quick charging from 15%-80% takes a convenient 30 minutes. To maximise the charging efficiency, a heat pump is standard on both battery options, as well as battery heating and cooling capability.

To help provide even more benefits from going fully electric, the new MICRA will be equipped with V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) technology on both battery versions, giving owners the option to use the electrical capacity in the battery to power external devices, such as speakers, air pumps, or even vacuum cleaners – ideal for owners who will meticulously cherish their MICRA.

Efficient and Responsive Performance
Complementing the smooth and hassle-free feel of an electric drive, the new MICRA has been meticulously engineered to provide a performance that goes above and beyond previous generations and will delight new and existing drivers alike.

Significantly lighter than many of its peers, and despite its solid and robust look, the new model weights just 1400kg (1524kg for the larger battery option) – allowing for increased efficiency, performance and handling versus its heavier counterparts.

With its battery pack sitting as low as possible within the architecture (the AmpR shared EV platform), a front suspension utilising independent struts and passive dampers, and a rear suspension consisting of multi-link geometry – a configuration typically found in higher segment vehicles – the new MICRA offers brilliant driving dynamics, and a best-in-class ride and handling. At the same time, MICRA’s optimised weight, instant torque response, and quick response steering combine to deliver a lively driving performance that lives up to its personality.

Much like the interior ambience, the nature of the drive characteristics can be tailored according to the driver’s mood, via a switch on the steering wheel. The change in mode adjusts the power and torque availability, throttle response, steering tune, as well as ambient lighting, the colour used on the screen and the information which is displayed. The default drive mode is “comfort”, which gives the best balance of response, efficiency and ease of driving. In “sport” mode, the full power and torque are available while the throttle response becomes sharp and the steering effort increases to give more substantial feedback via the wheel. “Eco” mode optimises the MICRA’s performance with the emphasis on efficiency, while throttle response is softened and the steering effort is reduced, encouraging a more placid driving style. Finally, “Perso” mode allows the driver to configure the various parameters to their preferences.

New MICRA’s performance is further complemented through the recycling of kinetic energy via regenerative braking, with the driver able to configure the settings using “paddles” behind the steering wheel. Increasing the amount of regenerative braking means the new MICRA decelerates more markedly. Meanwhile, new MICRA also boasts Nissan’s e-Pedal system, offering a one-pedal electric driving experience with the level of regeneration tuned to allow easy, effortless one-pedal urban driving in most situations. The e-Pedal system will bring the MICRA to a complete stop for added convenience.

Intuitive tech and connected experience
Integrated throughout the new MICRA are purposeful and seamless technology features – all designed to provide an uplifting and connected on-board and off-board experience for drivers and passengers alike. Considerable time and study has been expended on developing NissanConnect with Google built-in services to create a car that is an extension of the customer – allowing them to make calls, stream music, plan their trips, connect with smart home devices, message contacts and control several vehicle functions through voice-control to ensure safe driving.

The new MICRA is the second vehicle in Nissan’s European range to have Google built-in as part of the NissanConnect infotainment system – and as such comes standard with Google Maps. Once signed-in, with a personal Google Account drivers can access their favourite locations. This reduces the dependence on a mobile phone and cellular phone network. Over-the-air updates ensure the map information is always current.

And Google Maps also plays a central role in the Micra’s In-Car Route Planning capability. It enables drivers to set the destination and, if the destination is beyond the available range, it will propose charging stations en route, taking into account state-of-charge, average energy consumption and temperature. It will even pre-condition the battery ready for optimum charging speed.

Drivers also gain access to an ecosystem of apps available on Google Play for download into the car. They can conveniently listen to their favourite music, podcasts, audiobooks, and more directly from their car – ideal ways to pass the time while a quick charge is taking place!

The inclusion of Google Assistant allows the driver to use their voice for hands-free help and communications on the go. Drivers can just say “Hey Google”, and they are able to control the vehicle’s heating and air-conditioning system, heated seats, navigate to their next destination, or control smart home devices without taking their eyes off the road.

NissanConnect elevates the EV ownership experience through the off-board connectivity via the NissanConnect services app – available on all grades of new MICRA.

Control is always at driver’s fingertips with the connectivity app, providing access to features such as battery state of charge, car location, charging history, and remote control of various features such as cabin temperature and charging schedule.

By offering both on-board and off-board connectivity, New MICRA allows seamless interaction with the car as a natural part of the owner’s daily routine.

The New MICRA is also available with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard owners who prefer to mirror their mobile phone.

Advanced Safety Systems
At the heart of all Nissan vehicles is a commitment to safety, and the new MICRA is no different despite its size. For peace of mind on the highway, the new MICRA is available with Nissan ProPilot assist, offering lane-keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control and emergency braking. Additional features include Autonomous Emergency Braking, Emergency Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Intelligent Speed Assist and Driver Monitoring System all provide an impressive level of reassurance for the driver and passengers.

The new MICRA also offers Blind Spot Warning Intervention, Lane Change Warning, Rear Automatic Emergency Braking, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Occupant Safe Exit alert.

Squad ready for series’ first race in Florida since 2015

YOKOHAMA, Japan – Nissan Formula E Team is all set for Round 5 of the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship this weekend, as the series returns to Miami for the first time since its inaugural season.

The Japanese outfit has enjoyed a successful Season 11 to date, with Oliver Rowland taking two wins in four races to lead the drivers’ standings, helping Nissan top both the Teams’ and Manufacturers’ Championships.

Meanwhile, Norman Nato will be looking to continue his streak of scoring points in the United States, having finished in the top-10 in both New York and Portland on all his previous trips across the Atlantic Ocean in Formula E.

Homestead-Miami Speedway has played host to every major North American motorsport series and now becomes Formula E’s latest US race location. The original technical infield road course will challenge the drivers with high-speed sections and the best overtaking opportunities are set to be into Turns 1, 6 and 8 in what promises to be an exciting return to the Sunshine State.

Formula E’s trip to the USA is an important one for the team, with the country being Nissan’s biggest market worldwide. The manufacturer has been in operation in the USA since 1960, with its current headquarters based in Franklin, Tennessee.

Track action begins on Friday at 16:30 (UTC-4), with qualifying at 09:40 on Saturday ahead of the race at 14:00.

Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal, Nissan Formula E Team: “We’re proud to arrive in such a key market for Nissan while leading all three championships, and we have been working hard during the break to give ourselves the best chance to maintain our position. We know we’ve still got some fine tuning to do, which we’ve being focusing on during the break; now it’s time to put it all together on track and make sure we extract the best of the new directions we found. It’s always interesting to race in new circuits, as we often do in Formula E. However, there are also many unknowns that come with it, so we’ve been doing a lot of pre-simulation and simulation work to identify the key challenges and what will make the difference in terms of performance. We’re expecting a peloton-style race and we know we have good pace, so we have to be ambitious and will be targeting a strong result.”

Nothing’s different on our side despite the excellent start to the season – I have my goals for each race which don’t change. Norman Nato, driver, Nissan Formula E Team: “I’ve had a quiet and chilled time off, it was a busy pre-season with the opening round in December and settling back in with the team, so it felt good to have a proper break. I’ve been with my family, training and resting and now I’m ready to go flat out until the end of the campaign. For Miami, a new track is always an opportunity to perform strongly. Nobody has reference points from previous years, so it will be important to hit the ground running in Free Practice. We’re expecting a strategic race, and we’re trying to understand the best approach possible ahead of the weekend.”

Sérgio Sette Câmara, reserve and simulator driver, Nissan Formula E Team: “The time spent on the simulator is so crucial in Formula E, especially at a new track, because of how complex the cars are. From my experiences in the sim, this is one of the trickiest circuits I’ve driven during my time in the championship due to its high-speed nature. It’ll produce some great racing with wide sections of the track, and I think there will be a lot of important strategy calls and swapping of positions, which I can’t wait to see live.”

(LONDON, UK) March 26 2025 – Nissan’s ongoing electrified product offensive will be powered up with the launch of two all-new electric vehicles in 2025 – and a third coming soon – as well as an update to one of its most innovative and popular technologies.

Workers at Britain’s biggest car plant in Sunderland are preparing to start production of an all-new third generation version of Nissan’s pioneering LEAF electric vehicle, with first cars rolling off the production line later this year.

In addition, the 6,000-strong team will build upgraded versions of the Qashqai – one of the UK’s best-selling cars – thanks to new e-POWER technology that enhances refinement and efficiency.

And the next generation Juke – available for the first time as an EV – will arrive in FY26.

As if all that wasn’t enough, Nissan will also launch an all-new fully electric Micra in 2025, designed by the team at Nissan Design Europe, based in Paddington, London.

Return of Micra as an EV
First to launch in 2025 will be the all-new Micra. It will remain true to the DNA of its predecessors with a compelling mix of audacious style and simplicity in a compact package.

The new Micra was designed at Nissan Design Europe in London, using AmpR Small platform shared with Renault’s R5. It will be available with two battery options: 40 and 52kWh, providing a maximum range of over 248 miles. Sales of the new Micra will begin before the end of the year. It will be built at Ampere ElectriCity plant in Douai, France

Third generation of Leaf EV to follow
The second new vehicle to be launched in Europe in 2025 also represents the return of a historic nameplate, LEAF – a badge forever associated with the pioneering EV which started the mass-market electric vehicle revolution when it was introduced in 2010.
The third generation of LEAF will attract buyers thanks to its eye-catching aerodynamic shape. It has been developed on Nissan’s CMF-EV platform, architecture it shares with its larger sibling, the Ariya.

The European version of the new LEAF will be manufactured at Nissan’s state-of-the-art production facility in Sunderland, in the north-east of England. It forms part of Nissan’s EV36Zero project– a blueprint that will transform Sunderland Plant into a flagship EV hub, bringing together electric vehicles, renewable energy and battery production.

Nissan’s updated e-POWER will offer more refinement and efficiency
Having reinvented the hybrid powertrain when it was launched in 2022, Nissan’s unique e-POWER technology will also benefit from an upgrade this year. Following the Japanese principle of Kaizen – continuous improvement – the changes to the e-POWER system on Qashqai will deliver improvements to its emissions, efficiency and refinement, bringing the driving experience even closer to that of a full EV. Nearly 250,000 e-POWER equipped vehicles have been sold in Europe since its introduction.

Third generation JUKE to follow in FY26 as pure EV
Beyond 2025, Nissan’s engineers continue to develop the third generation of its JUKE compact crossover, which is scheduled for launch in FY2026 as an EV, based on the Hyper Punk concept car which was presented in October 2023 at the Japan Mobility Show.

Speaking about all the product updates in the coming years, Leon Dorssers, Regional Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Nissan AMIEO (Africa, Middle-East, India, Europe & Oceania) region, said: “The renewal of Nissan’s European line-up is the realisation of our bold plan to electrify our range in Europe. All-new Nissan LEAF
Reimagined as a sleek and spacious family-friendly crossover, the third-generation all-new Nissan LEAF pairs substantial improvements in aerodynamics with a more advanced EV architecture.

As a first for the iconic EV nameplate, the all-new LEAF will be available with 19-inch alloy wheels and a panoramic moonroof. For the North American market, a NACS charging port is also integrated – the first time for a Nissan EV – enabling convenient access to the Tesla Supercharger network.

The all-new LEAF sits on Nissan’s modular CMF-EV platform (which debuted with the Ariya). Efficient energy management, streamlined packaging and enhanced driving performance from Nissan’s new 3-in-1 EV powertrain, are expected to help deliver significant range improvements over the previous generation. Further details will be shared mid-year.

Next-generation e-POWER
For customers seeking a sophisticated hybrid powertrain, Nissan’s third-generation e-POWER will benefit from the learnings of over 1.6 million produced units since the technology was first introduced in 2016.

The third-generation e-POWER system delivers notable improvements in efficiency where it is targeted to provide up to 15% enhancement in economy at high speeds compared to the current, second-generation system. It will also deliver lower emissions and enhanced refinement through reduced noise and vibration.

A unique Nissan technology, e-POWER uses a small capacity gasoline engine and lithium-ion battery to power an electric motor. As the electric motor alone drives the wheels, the result is an EV-like driving experience, characterized by powerful and responsive acceleration paired with quiet operation.

Central to the advancement is the adoption of a new, 1.5-liter e-POWER dedicated engine. Additionally, the new 5-in-1 system, which shares core components with Nissan’s latest EV powertrain.

The third-generation e‐POWER system will debut on the Qashqai in Europe later in FY25, followed in FY26 in the next-generation Rogue in North America and a large minivan for the Japan market.

Overview of key models by region
U.S. and Canada: More than 10 new and refreshed products in key segments including next-gen EV and hybrid technology and INFINITI models.

In FY25, the U.S. and Canada will be the first markets to launch the all-new Nissan LEAF, joining Ariya in the brand’s EV portfolio. Additionally, Nissan will commence sales of the brand’s first plug-in hybrid in North America, in a PHEV version of the compact Rogue SUV.

A new generation of Nissan’s top-selling Sentra compact sedan will be introduced later this year, alongside a refreshed midsize Pathfinder SUV.

For INFINITI, a refreshed three-row luxury QX60 SUV will be offered, alongside a new SPORT package for the full-sized QX80 SUV.

In FY26, production of the all-new, fourth-generation Rogue will begin. The model will be the first to offer Nissan’s innovative e-POWER technology to consumers in the U.S. and Canada. Nissan will also offer Rogue with a powerful and efficient internal combustion engine, as well as a plug-in hybrid model, providing a diverse range of powertrains to shine in the market’s most popular vehicle segment.

INFINITI will launch the all-new QX65 crossover coupe. Channeling inspiration from the pioneering INFINITI FX, INFINITI QX65 promises buyers a stylish two-row alternative in the very popular mid-size crossover segment.

Then from late FY27, an all-new Nissan EV is scheduled to commence production at Nissan’s Canton, Mississippi plant in the U.S. The all-new model will be an adventure-focused SUV. It will be joined in FY28 by a luxury INFINITI EV SUV (inspired by the Vision QXe concept) that pairs the brand’s latest Artistry in Motion design language with a suite of technology features.

LATAM: Rugged pick-up, stylish compact SUV, affordable sedan and expansion of X-Trail e-POWER

In FY25, Nissan will expand sales of the latest Versa subcompact sedan within the region and launch a new sub-compact SUV. For INFINITI, the refreshed three-row luxury QX60 SUV will also arrive.

In FY26, the Frontier/Navara midsize pick-up truck will arrive, bringing an evolved design, enhanced infotainment and impressive suite of advanced driver assist technologies. Later in FY26, availability of Nissan’s popular X-Trail compact SUV with e-POWER will expand to additional markets within LATAM. INFINITI will also expand its line-up with the launch of the all-new, mid-size QX65 crossover coupe.

Japan: Renewal of core segment models and introduction of next-generation electrified powertrains

In FY25, Nissan will launch a comprehensive range of new and refreshed models in the Japan market, including the all-new LEAF and a refreshed Kei car.

In FY26, a new generation of the large minivan powered by third generation e-POWER will be available. Further details will be outlined later this year.

Europe: Quartet of locally produced electrified models

In FY25, Nissan will launch three key electrified models in Europe, including an all-new Micra EV city car, the all-new LEAF and the Qashqai crossover will be offered with the new, third generation e-POWER technology.

The Micra nameplate returns to Europe, reimagined in the form of a stylish all-new, all-electric city car, produced in collaboration with Renault. Holding true to the DNA of its predecessors, it promises a compelling mix of audacious style and simplicity in a compact package – updated for the electric age. Styled by Nissan Design Europe in London, it will be offered exclusively for European customers. Sales of the all-new Micra will begin before the end of the year.

The Qashqai fitted with the next-generation e-POWER system will deliver reduced emissions, improved efficiency and refinement, bringing the driving experience even closer to that of a full EV. To date, close to 200,000 e-Power equipped vehicles have been sold in Europe since its introduction.

In FY26, an additional EV, the all-new, all-electric Juke will be added to the range – Nissan’s fourth passenger car EV in Europe. As previewed by the ‘Hyper Punk’ concept, the all-new compact crossover SUV will continue the nameplate’s tradition of bold design and advanced connectivity delivering personalization to support the owner’s self-expression.

Middle East: NISMO performance and INFINITI addition

In FY25, the Z range will expand, with the addition of the Z NISMO delivering an exhilarating, track-ready sports car experience. For INFINITI, the refreshed three-row luxury QX60 SUV and a new SPORT package for the QX80 will also arrive.

In FY26, the all-new QX65 will be added to the INFINITI range, offering buyers in the region a stylish 2-row mid-size luxury crossover.

India: Leveraging the world’s fastest-growing domestic market and expanding exports

Nissan will strengthen its presence in India’s rapidly growing market, enhancing domestic performance and expanding exports. Over the next two years, it will introduce two innovative models: starting with a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) in FY25 followed by a 5-seat compact sports utility vehicle (CSUV) in FY26.

Both new models will be manufactured locally at the Chennai plant and follow the ‘One Car, One World’ strategy to support both domestic sales and deliver world-class exports in both right, and left-hand drive configurations.

Nissan aims to reach its ambitious goal of 100,000 units in both annual domestic sales and exports from India.

Oceania: Pair of EVs, one-ton pick-up, all-new Patrol and third generation e-Power

In FY25, sales of the much-anticipated Ariya all-electric crossover will commence in Australia.

FY26 will see a significant number of new models introduced including: the all-new Patrol (as the first right hand drive market globally), an all-new one-ton pickup (leveraging Nissan’s partnership with Mitsubishi Motors), the all-new third-generation LEAF EV and the Qashqai crossover, offered with the new third generation e-POWER technology.

Africa: Introduction of Magnite to selected markets, as well as Patrol and a future SUV

The introduction of the stylish Magnite compact SUV will begin across African left-hand drive markets during FY25, with new Patrol also set to be introduced in in Egypt and South Africa in FY25 and FY26 respectively.

A new 5-seat SUV will also arrive in selected African markets within FY26.

Following 2024 success that delivered a refreshed product line-up, award-winning models and two of the nation’s favourite cars, Nissan GB is accelerating into an electric year ahead.

It was the only UK brand to finish the last year with two cars in the top-five best-sellers list, thanks to the British-built Qashqai and Juke, which found homes with 76,872 of the UK’s new car buyers.

The achievement meant Nissan GB powered to 100,446 car sales in 2024, up 12.3% on 2023, securing a 5.14% market share (up almost half a percent over 2023).

Qashqai and Juke’s popularity also ensured Nissan’s 6,000-strong team in Sunderland proudly retained its title as the UK’s all-time most successful vehicle manufacturing plant. Half a million electrified cars have rolled off the production line there in recent years, pushing the total production number to an unsurpassed 11.5m cars since it opened in 1986.

These changes didn’t go unnoticed either, with eight trophies awarded to Nissan in 2024 in recognition of its new and used vehicle strengths, and uniquely innovative powertrains. Even its UK-based engineering teams were singled out for praise, with David Moss and his Cranfield-based research and development teams picking up a prestigious Autocar award in recognition of services to engineering.

Rowland and Nato get first official experience in GEN3 Evo machinery as Pulling tops all-women’s test session

MADRID, Spain – Nissan Formula E Team has completed the pre-season test at Circuito del Jarama in Madrid as the squad continues to get set for the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

Oliver Rowland and the returning Norman Nato both got on track in the new GEN3 Evo cars, which will feature for the next two seasons, while on Friday afternoon, Alpine Academy driver Abbi Pulling took part in the all-women test session.

Both Rowland and Nato took to the circuit with a focus on understanding the new aspects of the Nissan e-4ORCE 05 vehicles, such as the upgraded Hankook tires and the All-Wheel Drive system.

Thursday afternoon gave teams the chance to trial the new Pit Boost feature set to be introduced for Season 11, which will provide a 10% energy increase to the race cars through a quick 30-second 600kW charge in the pitlane, enabling drivers to subsequently activate Attack Mode afterwards.

The last session of the test on Friday morning resulted in both finishing in the top-10, with Rowland in sixth and Nato in 10th. Overall, across the official testing days, the Brit netted seventh while on the other side of the garage, the Frenchman was 12th on the timesheets. The duo gained plenty of useful data and information throughout the week, totaling a combined 389 laps between them.

Friday afternoon saw the much-anticipated all-women’s test session, with Alpine Academy member Abbi Pulling taking to the track. The F1 Academy championship leader was on the pace immediately, setting positive lap times throughout and finishing top of the timesheets at the end of the three-hour session.

Season 11 begins in São Paulo on December 7, 2024, with the campaign also set to feature a double-header in the teams’ home race in Japan, when the Tokyo E-Prix takes place over the weekend of May 17-18, 2025. The full calendar can be found here.

Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal, Nissan Formula E Team: “It’s been a week of learning the new GEN3 Evo technology and we’ve collected a huge amount of data. The All-Wheel Drive system and new tires have made the biggest difference, so this will be a learning curve for all teams in the build up to São Paulo. It was also great to try out the Pit Boost on Thursday and we’re confident it will bring an extra dimension to the championship.

“On the drivers’ side, Norman settled into the team really well and Oli’s getting back up to speed strongly as we look to continue from where we left off in London. It was also great to have Abbi taking part in the all-women’s test session. She was very professional and performed fantastically in the car to top the timesheets. We’re very pleased with our work this week and it sets a great platform to further improve before heading to Brazil.

“Finally, our thoughts remain with the people of Valencia after the tragic floods last week.”

Oliver Rowland, Nissan Formula E Team driver: “It was a valuable week for us, helping to understand the new GEN3 Evo cars as well as the new powertrain and tires. The tires are tricky to get into the correct window, but once you’re there they bring a lot more grip on one lap and should be interesting during the races. We’ve collected a lot of data throughout the sessions and now need to work on analyzing this to maximize our performance in São Paulo.”

Norman Nato, Nissan Formula E Team driver: “The final objective of these test sessions is to ensure we have the correct set-up going into the opening round. I feel strong in the 300kW mode, which is encouraging, and we’ll continue to work on the performance once the power is turned up. Now it’s all about understanding what we learned this week and preparing for a strong event in São Paulo next month.”

Abbi Pulling: “It was a really exciting session, and felt amazing to put what I’ve learned in the simulator into real life and to experience the thrill of driving a Nissan Formula E car. The lap times were strong which is very pleasing, I think there was more time to extract at the peak of the tire, but overall I’m happy with the performance. The whole team was great, explaining everything to me and answering any questions I had, so a big thanks to them. I’m delighted to have helped Nissan Formula E Team in the build up to the new season and I hope to have another opportunity to drive the car in the future!”

Nissan X-Trail Mountain Rescue: bringing e-4ORCE to the slopes

Nissan X-Trail Mountain Rescue highlights effortless traction capability of Nissan’s family adventure crossover
Modified X-Trail displayed at Cervinia’s ski resort (Italy) to encourage people to ride responsibly

Paris, France — Nissan is bringing the all-wheel drive strengths of its unique e-4ORCE technology to European ski slopes this winter, with the creation of an X-Trail e-4ORCE extensively modified for mountain rescue needs.

The modifications to the X-Trail Mountain Rescue include the replacement of the wheels with snow tracks, giving confident traction on slippery pistes, while the rear seats have been removed to allow the installation of a stretcher, to allow the transportation of injured skiers to the nearest medical facility, and a seat for a medical professional.

Externally, a bespoke roof rack has been added to carry an evacuation stretcher and snow shovels. A siren, flashing light bar and powerful lights have also been embedded to the X-Trail’s roof, as well as lights on the hood. Wider fenders front and rear have been integrated to accommodate the tracks, while at the front the bumper has been enhanced to carry a winch. A reinforced towing hook has been added to the front and rear bumpers, while footboards have been included on the side to facilitate access as the X-Trail rides 23cm higher on its track than the road-going version.

The development and construction of the X-Trail Mountain Rescue was conceived to highlight the advanced electrified twin-motor e-4ORCE all-wheel drive system with which the X-Trail is equipped. What sets the system apart from traditional mechanical systems is that it can react to changing levels of grip in 1/10,000th of a second, approximately 1000 times quicker than a traditional all-wheel drive system, and it can adjust the distribution of power to the wheels individually, according to the available grip. The occupants will be blissfully unaware that the e-4ORCE system is working so effectively to provide traction in all conditions, allowing peace of mind as they travel on wet urban, leafy suburban, muddy country or snowy mountain roads.

The X-Trail Mountain Rescue is supporting a campaign in five European ski resorts under the banner of “Ride Responsibly”. Nissan will promote courteous slope etiquette with the placement of digital signs which encourage snow riders to slow down where different slopes meet to reduce the risk of collision. Similar to road-side signs that display a vehicle’s speed, the signs will monitor the speed of approaching riders and show “Thank You” for those who are approaching at a considerate speed, or “Slow Down” if their speed is judged as excessive. The X-Trail Mountain Rescue will be displayed in a glass box at the popular Italian ski resort of Cervinia.

Nissan EV among world’s great transport innovations of the last 90 years

The world’s first mass-market electric vehicle has secured its place among some of the world’s greatest transport innovations according to a survey conducted by Nissan to mark its 90th birthday this week.

Since the company was founded, on 26th December 1933, Nissan has established a storied history of pioneering electric vehicles, legendary performance cars and revolutionary crossovers that demonstrate its own daring spirit of innovation over the last nine decades.

From the 1947 Tama electric vehicle, via the LEAF – the world’s first mass-market EV in 2010 – to recently revealed future EV concepts like the Hyper Punk and Hyper Urban, the company strives to enrich people’s lives with thrilling journeys and pioneering technology that help to create a cleaner, safer and more inclusive world.

To mark its 90 years of automotive success, Nissan commissioned a OnePoll survey of 2,000 UK adults to find out people’s opinions on a list of other significant transport innovations of the last 90 years – with the opening of the Channel Tunnel, Concorde’s first flight and the invention of satnav coming out on top. The electrification of the London Underground, the first modern hovercraft and the first zebra crossing also ranked in the top 30.

Looking to the future, the study showed that 69 per cent think that new technologies will play a big part in reducing the environmental impact of transportation in this country.

The survey also revealed that 27 per cent are in favour of introducing artificial intelligence into the car industry, while 29 per cent hold the same views for public transport.

With artificial intelligence (AI) becoming increasingly commonplace in day-to-day life, Nissan has utilised the technology to bring its 90-year heritage to life by imagining transport scenes that compare the Tama, its first ever electric car in 1947, to the modern-day Ariya EV.

Andrew Humberstone, managing director of Nissan GB, said: “Over the last 90 years, we’ve always dared to do things differently at Nissan and have delivered some truly ground-breaking innovations along the way.

The Nissan LEAF featured at number 19 on the list, while EVs specifically were voted as the innovation that holds the most promise for the future of UK sustainability. A third of those polled also believe the motor industry has undergone the most exciting changes over the past nine decades – compared to aviation, rail, and cycling.

More sustainable road travel (38 per cent), scientific advancement (16 per cent), and employment opportunities (11 per cent) were also seen as the biggest opportunities within the EV industry.

Seventy percent of those surveyed believe transport innovations have had a positive impact on their own lives, and 54 per cent claim it has made travelling easier for them.

Almost three quarters (71 per cent) agree it has improved their ability to travel and commute up and down the country, and staying connected with family and friends has become easier for 30 per cent.

What’s more, 41 per cent of those polled have been able to save time on their journeys, and 43 per cent are able to travel to longer distance locations thanks to the various innovations.

Nissan today unveils the Nissan Hyper Adventure, the second vehicle in its series of advanced EV concepts for the Japan Mobility Show starting on October 25.

The digital concept is a sports SUV designed for people passionate about outdoor adventures and an eco-friendly lifestyle.

Extended time on the road requires energy, so the Nissan Hyper Adventure concept and its V2X (vehicle-to-everything) technology are envisioned to sustain electricity needs anytime and anywhere while still being respectful of the environment.

Whether it’s a weekend jaunt to the local mountains or a months-long journey to a remote locale, the Nissan Hyper Adventure’s primary objective is to accommodate the diverse needs of those who love the outdoors. Its large-capacity battery doubles as an energy source, allowing users to power up their gadgets, light up campsites, or even recharge their electric jet skis. Its V2X capability can also provide power to homes (V2H) or a local community by contributing surplus power to the grid (V2G).

When traveling over a snowy mountain pass or the muddy trail of a lush rainforest, Nissan’s advanced e-4ORCE all-wheel-control system helps ensure that travellers reach their destinations smoothly, safely, and in style.

The exterior features dynamic body panels that express activity, thanks to the distinctive diagonal line on the side of the vehicle that accentuates the spacious cabin within. YOKOHAMA, Japan – Nissan today unveiled the Nissan Hyper Tourer, the third in its series of advanced electric-vehicle (EV) concepts to be featured at the Japan Mobility Show starting October 25. The Nissan Hyper Tourer will be displayed physically at the show.

This all-electric minivan focuses on nurturing and reinforcing the bond between people as they journey together. The Nissan Hyper Tourer concept is geared toward individuals who appreciate the finer things in life and enjoy the company of friends and associates, whether on a road trip or business outing.

The Nissan Hyper Tourer combines the essence of omotenashi (Japanese hospitality) with various advanced technologies, including autonomous driving. The V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) functionality and high-capacity battery also allows electricity to be supplied to homes, stores, and offices, while traveling and on various business situations.

The exterior, which conveys a sense of the comfort within, is composed of smooth body panels and sharp character lines that demonstrate traditional Japanese beauty, and its imposing appearance harmonises with the surrounding landscape. The sides flow diagonally from the front to the rear fender for higher aerodynamic performance and the impression of the smooth drive resulting from the combination of EV and autonomous drive.
