Renault Group, MyWheels and We Drive Solar, together with the Municipality of Utrecht, announce the go-live of Europe’s first large‑scale Vehicle‑to‑Grid (V2G) car‑sharing service: Utrecht energized. The initiative supports a more sustainable, efficient energy system in a city where 35 % of rooftops are already fitted with solar panels. Thanks to the V2G technology, electric vehicles can store energy and feed it back to the local grid during peak periods, so renewable power remains available around the clock. By combining a shared‑mobility service with advanced technology, the project keeps the local grid in balance while accelerating the transition to sustainable urban transport.

The launch of this large‑scale car‑sharing service, using the V2G technology – was announced in November 2024 and is now live. Representing a decisive step towards cleaner mobility, this initiative promotes large‑scale availability of electric shared cars while helping to balance the city’s electricity network through the pioneering bidirectional charging technology. The Netherlands is a global leader in solar and wind-based energy deployment, and Utrecht ranks among Europe’s most progressive renewable‑energy cities, with 35 % of roofs equipped with solar panels. The use of renewables presents challenges for the grid due to their massive deployment, causing high peaks in energy supply. To manage the grid with a high proportion of renewables requires a system that quickly adapts to the changes in energy generation and consumption. This is where the V2G technology steps in to address these challenges.

The roll‑out is now live with 50 Renault 5 E‑Tech electric cars. Available via a car‑sharing service managed by MyWheels, the vehicles use V2G bidirectional charging technology developed by Mobilize, Renault Group’s brand dedicated to new mobilities. It is the first time this innovative technology has been made available for public infrastructure, provided by We Drive Solar. The 500 bidirectional cars can deliver 10 % of the flexibility required in the Utrecht region to balance solar‑ and wind‑generated electricity at peak times.

Sustainable technology for everyone
The fleet will later expand with other E‑Tech electric models, further demonstrating Renault Group’s commitment to sustainable mobility and innovation. Their compact design and advanced technology make them ideal for city car‑sharing schemes moving towards cleaner travel. Mobilize’s V2G solution represents a major advance, enabling the public infrastructure and We Drive Solar’s services to contribute on a large scale to a more resilient, sustainable energy system.

A partnership with impact
Renault’s shared cars, equipped with Mobilize’s V2G technology, let users charge with clean electricity and feed power back to the grid when demand is high. We Drive Solar, an international leader in smart charging, provides advanced charging solutions: bidirectional public AC chargers and aggregation technology that support Mobilize’s V2G toolkit. The 500 Renault E‑Tech electric models are operated by MyWheels, the Netherlands’ biggest car‑sharing company. By combining mobility and energy solutions, MyWheels sets a new benchmark for car‑sharing and tackles key urban challenges.

This collaboration shows how public–private initiatives can deliver sustainable, efficient mobility solutions.

Renault Group calls for action to unleash the full potential of electric cars
Utrecht Energized, Europe’s first large-scale Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) car-sharing service, is a testament to the power of collaborative success. This initiative clearly demonstrates that a thriving V2G ecosystem can only be achieved through the seamless collaboration of multiple players, from vehicle manufacturers and charging infrastructure providers to energy companies and local authorities. By joining forces with We Drive Solar, MyWheels, and the Municipality of Utrecht, Renault Group is turning V2G from a promising concept into a tangible reality.

To continue to deploy V2G services, a supportive regulatory framework that addresses barriers such as unfavorable tax policies, grid fee structures, and complex certification processes will be essential to fully unlock the potential of V2G and enable its widespread adoption.

Renault Group today reinforced its commitment to Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology and urged policymakers and industry stakeholders to accelerate its deployment across Europe. V2G allows electric vehicles (EVs) to not only draw energy from the grid but also to discharge electricity back during peak times, turning them into mobile energy resources.

Successfully implementing V2G at scale requires a harmonized approach across the entire energy ecosystem, bringing together vehicles, charging infrastructure, energy providers, and grid operators. Renault Group is already demonstrating this in France, where customers are successfully using V2G with models like the R5, Alpine A290, R4, New Megane, and New Scenic.

While the technology is market-ready and offers significant benefits – including grid flexibility, reduced energy costs for EV owners, and a lower total cost of ownership – unlocking this potential requires overcoming current regulatory and technical barriers.

Renault Group calls for clear and consistent regulations across Europe, encompassing fiscal incentives, grid fee revisions, streamlined certification processes, and support for smart meter deployment. These measures are crucial to unlocking the potential of V2G and making it a cornerstone of a faster and more sustainable energy transition. Ultimately, this will contribute to turning every EV into a grid asset and powering a faster, smarter shift to a sustainable energy ecosystem.

“To unlock the full potential of V2G, we need to break down existing barriers – from adapting fiscal rules and grid fees to promoting interoperability and simplifying certification processes. With the right alignment, V2G can become a cornerstone of tomorrow’s grid.”
Jérôme Faton, Mobilize Energy director.

Groundbreaking experiential event showcases Renault 5’s unique blend of desirability and fun with talks, music, merchandise and more

Maison 5 runs from 22nd-30th March at Future Stores, 95 Oxford Street, W1D 2AD

Renault will bring a splash of French flair to London’s Oxford Street this month, as Renault 5 E-Tech electric takes over Future Stores, the innovative immersive retail space, from 22nd-30th March.

The unique event will offer customers the chance to experience for themselves how the multi-award-winning Car of the Year makes electric cars not just accessible, but fun and desirable, too.

The high-tech space at 95 Oxford Street will be branded Maison 5 from 22nd-30th March and will offer an immersive and captivating experience to central London commuters and shoppers.

Three versions of the acclaimed pure-electric supermini will be on display for customers to interact with, while the venue’s giant high-definition screens call-out the Renault 5’s key features that have made it a stand-out hit with automotive judges and the car-buying public.

On select days, presenters Jack Scarlett (Fully Charged Show, Electroheads) and Nicola Hume (Red Bull Racing’s ‘Talking Bull’ podcast, Electrifying) will engage with the public to answer questions and showcase the all-electric Renault 5 as it blends optimum value with a great deal of appeal in an EV for the first time – all with typically Gallic style on one of London’s most iconic streets.

This is the first time the prime Oxford Street location, on Europe’s busiest shopping street with annual footfall of 70 million, has been used by an automotive brand. Alongside the cars, Jack and Nicola will be joined by a DJ, mixing London cool with French pop, while an R5 merchandising corner will offer everything from hoodies to portable music players to remind us why the Renault 5 has been such a vivid part of our lives for 50 years.

David Isherwood, Marketing Director, Renault UK, said: “Renault 5 is a pop icon, exuding its own unique sense of energy and fun wherever it goes, and we’re keen to share that with as many people as we can. After its debut meeting commuters at London’s St Pancras station last year, what better place to bring a cultural icon to next than to the centre of popular culture itself?”

This groundbreaking activation is sure to win Renault 5 new fans, just as it has with the likes of Top Gear, What Car? and others who have all voted it their Car of the Year.

Renault 5 E-Tech electric harks back to its glorious past while building on the enduring love-affair it shared with many. The epitome of modernity, it blends agile handling with new technology – from Reno, the helpful avatar ready to partner you on every journey, to the built-in Google services. Priced from £22,995, it offers a range of up to 252 miles on a single charge, and can recharge to 80% in only 30 minutes.

Anatomy of a Comeback, the documentary series available on Prime Video from 13 December, includes an unexpected Easter egg at the very end of the fourth and final episode: the exclusive reveal of the future Renault 5 Turbo 3E production model

A modern, electric take on the Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2 of the 1980s, this spectacular sports car is adrenalin on wheels. Just take the wheel for ultimate driving thrills and powerful acceleration

Telling the story of the Renaulution from the inside
Anatomy of a Comeback(1) is a documentary series available on Prime Video from 13 December. It tells the story of how Renault Group turned itself around to overcome a crisis on a scale exceeding anything previously seen in this sector.

On the verge of collapse in the early 2020s, the company launched Renaulution, a transformational roadmap that was unique in the automotive industry. A last chance plan. With this documentary, the company is throwing its doors wide open, offering a unique insight into its manufacturing secrets and the design of new models such as Renault 5, as well as taking us into the paddocks of the Alpine Formula One Team.

It also shares the exclusive reveal of a new model. A true human adventure involving difficulty and failure as well as success, viewed through the eyes of the people on the frontline.

A world first in a documentary
In a world first, Renault uses the documentary to reveal a new production vehicle. Right at the end of the fourth episode is an Easter egg. Viewers follow Luca de Meo, CEO of Renault Group, Fabrice Cambolive, CEO Renault brand, and Gilles Vidal, VP of Renault Design, on a visit to the Design Department to see the future Renault 5 Turbo 3E, confirmed by Luca de Meo as an upcoming production model.

Forty-six years after the launch of the first Renault 5 Turbo, Renault is set to wow enthusiasts with the revival of this ultimate sporting icon. Making the reveal in a documentary is an unusual idea, but one that is well suited to a model that is truly unique. It will be followed in 2025 by an array of exclusive activations further lifting the curtain on Renault 5 Turbo 3E.

Exuberance, sporting credentials and breathtaking performance
The documentary reveals a little more about the future production model. A modern take on Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2, Renault 5 Turbo 3E was revealed by the show car of the same name at the 2022 Paris Motor Show. Packed with performance and exuberance, it makes many nods to the world of motorsports.

With the looks and livery of a car built for the track, it sports the historic colours of one of the rallying versions of the early 1980s. Renault 5 Turbo 3E is an all-electric hot hatch of retro-futuristic design, with an eminently modern charging socket in one of the rear air intakes, bringing to mind the styling of the original ‘Turbo’. The carbon superstructure is both lightweight and extremely stiff, two qualities that are fundamental for a ‘pocket rocket’ worthy of its name and heritage.

Like its iconic predecessor, Renault 5 Turbo 3E will have a rear-wheel drive layout. The two electric motors housed in the rear wheels will deliver instant power to each wheel, for total output of more than 500 bhp. Behind the wheel, drivers will experience ultimate driving thrills with lightning acceleration. Renault 5 Turbo 3E will sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds, a performance worthy of a supercar or even a hypercar.

The Group is bringing the best of its skills and expertise to the development of this ultimate Renault brand icon.

1Shot over a period of two years in 4 x 40-minute episodes, the series Anatomy of a Comeback is produced by Sans Borne and Breath Film (Elephant).

In a challenging yet growing EV market for the years to come, Ampere is moving fast to take the lead in Europe.

Over the past year, Ampere accelerated its development and manufacturing times: Twingo is on track to be developed in less than 2 years, for a selling price under 20,000 euros; and Renault 5 well advanced to be manufactured in less than 10 hours in its Ampere ElectriCity hub.

After a positive first cooperation around its compact EV, Nissan asked Ampere to explore the development of its next A-segment electric car, leveraging the breakthroughs processes newly implemented.

This new opportunity demonstrates the acceleration of Ampere as a Tech platform for major brands : Alpine with A290 and A390, Nissan with its Compact EV and future A-segment, Mistubishi with its next EV C-SUV

To speed up in the development of its vehicles and scout the best level in terms of technological innovation and customer experience, Ampere now leverages a dedicated team in China, working very closely with Chinese partners, with the objective to learn and catch-up.

Demonstration of its agility in times of volatility and its capacity to reduce costs significantly, Ampere is ready to get LFP (Lithium, Iron, Phosphate) chemistry in its cars beginning 2026 and will set up a breakthrough technology in batteries, based on cobalt-free chemistry, as soon as 2028.

Ampere will have in 2026 the first European SDV, one example proving the validity of its horizontal approach, allowing to reduce costs while keeping the IP of what is core.

Ampere is on track with its 40% cost reduction roadmap between the first and second generation of C-segment electric vehicles in 2028, thanks to LFP and new technologies such as cell-to-pack in 2026.

Our next generation of EV, set to reach the market in 2028, will integrate breakthrough technologies and ambitions to be at the best level of the competition, catching-up two generations in one.

Going beyond electric vehicles, Ampere unveils the technologies toward net-zero mobility featured in its Renault Emblème demo-car presented at Paris Motor Show.

Boulogne-Billancourt – October 30, 2024 – One year after its launch, Ampere, the intelligent EV pure player, shares the major advancements made in the past twelve months.

Despite the recent slowing down of EV market, Ampere accelerates to catch up with the leaders and widen the gap with its peers in Europe. Ampere plans to take advantage of the expected growth of EV market, around 25% annually in the next five years, driving automotive market growth.

Deeply rooted in France, to serve the European market and beyond, Ampere set up in the North of France ElectriCity, its EV manufacturing hub, leveraging a whole ecosystem to produce in a competitive way its electric vehicles: Megane E-Tech Electric, Scenic E-Tech Electric, Renault 5 E-Tech Electric and Renault 4 E-Tech Electric. ElectriCity, gathering Douai, Maubeuge and Ruitz plants, and in close collaboration with Cléon for e-powertrain, is reducing its manufacturing time to produce Renault 5 in less than 10 hours.

Announced one year ago, Twingo development is well on track, ready to be on the market in 2026, developed in less than two years, for a selling price under 20,000 euros. To do so, we scouted the best level of technological innovations and customer experience.

After a first successful tech cooperation on the soon-to-come compact EV, Nissan asked Ampere to explore the development of its next A-segment EV, building on its acceleration and leveraging the breakthroughs processes newly implemented. This car would benefit from Ampere cost reduction roadmap and reduced development time.

This new opportunity demonstrates Ampere strong position as a Tech platform for major brands: Alpine with A390 developed on AmpR Medium, alongside A290 developed on AmpR Small and manufactured in Douai; Nissan with its compact EV developped and manufactured by Ampere in 2025 and potential A-segment EV, and Mitsubishi with its EV C-SUV developed on AmpR Medium platform and manufactured in Douai in 2025.

To speed up in the development of its EVs, Ampere relies on a dedicated entity called Advanced China Development Center, created to gather a team working very closely with Chinese partners. The ambition of having such an integrated team there is to learn from the ecosystem on development processes, and get the most of it both for Ampere and Renault Group teams.

Ampere has also achieved to get the LFP (Lithium, Iron, Phosphate) technology into its cars in 18 months, alongside NMC (Nickel, Manganese, Cobalt), demonstrating its agility in times of volatility and its capacity to drive major transformations in record times to reduce costs significantly. With cell-to-pack technologies and working on cell-to-chassis, Ampere offers to its customers the best autonomy at the best price, depending on their usage.

By 2028, Ampere will be ready to deliver the next technology leap in chemistry with cobalt-free batteries, gathering the energy density of the NCM, the cost and safety of LFP, and less than 15-min charge. It foreshadows our objective to double around 2030 the energy density of NCM thanks to a cobalt-free cathode and a Li-Metal anode applied to a structural Solid State Battery.

Ampere will have in 2026 the first European SDV with FlexEVan, one example of the validity of its horizontal approach, allowing to reduce costs while keeping the IP of what is core. This approach is key in the Software, with Google and Qualcomm; but also in the batteries with four partners based in Europe; and in power Electronics, to accelerate in this field representing a significant part of the cost of an electric powertrain.

The combination of these advancements made over the past year allows Ampere to be well on track with its 40% cost reduction roadmap between the first and second generation of C-segment EVs in 2028, in particular thanks to LFP and new technologies such as cell-to-pack.

Our next generation of C-segment EVs will offer in 2028 the best efficiency thanks to a breakthrough in energy integration, thermal management, and embedding other new technologies such as our third generation of rare-earth free motor. With these cars, Ampere plans to be at the best level of the competition and catch-up two generations in one.

Going beyond electric vehicles to net zero mobility, Ampere unveils the work done to address a major engineering and innovation challenge giving birth to Renault Emblème. Convinced that decarbonization can only be achieved by playing as a team, Ampere gathered the most cutting-edge technologies across key areas, to turn its ambition to an up-and-running car.

“We’ve designed Ampere to deliver unique technology and customer experience, to catch up with the best in a record time. The major advancements made by Ampere in just one year prove that it is definitely the most substantiated response of Europe’s auto industry to new competitors coming from the East and the West. We are making the difference and our objective is to take the lead in Europe and beyond.” said Luca de Meo, CEO of Renault Group and Ampere.
